6 Best Places To Go This Autumn

After a wonderful summer of sunshine, sea and sand I’m now ready to embrace the autumn weather and looking for inspiration in what our beautiful country has to offer.  There’s a vast landscape of views and sights still to explore in the UK so where will I hang my hammock next?

Here are some ideas I’ve had already, I hope they inspire you to get your walking shoes on, pack the travel hammock and get outdoors in our beautiful country.

Giant’s Causeway, County Antrim

Giants Causeway

The Giant's Causeway is an area of about 40,000 interlocking basalt columns, the result of an ancient volcanic fissure eruption located on the north coast of Northern Ireland.  This geological wonder is home to a wealth of history and legend.  This award-winning heritage site offers visitors the chance to explore waymarked trails and enjoy the spectacular coastal scenery.  What a unique yet stunning place to visit at this time of year and one off the bucket list for me.

Kayaking in Exmoor National Park

Kayaking Exmoor

What better way to explore the views of this stunning part of the country than from the water. Take a guided kayak tour down the River Barle, taking in the sights and sounds of the heart of Exmoor. If you are lucky, you might catch the famous Red Deer, or even hear them, as autumn is the rutting season. If you are feeling truly adventurous, pick a spot under the stars, hang your hammock, and make it your home for the night. With so little light pollution, Exmoor's vast night skies are known to be one of the best spots in the UK for astronomy, you won't be disappointed at the star gazing.

A woodland walk in Burnham Beeches - Buckinghamshire

Burnham Beeches is great for families

Used as a location in the Harry Potter films, this small forest just outside of London is filled with beautiful, big beech trees, perfect to hang a hammock! Just be careful where you tread, as this forest is also of international importance to fungi, and is a home to many rare and threatened species.

So tiptoe lightly, and take a sway in your hammock, watch the leaves fall and if you are super lucky, catch the sunlight through the tree canopy, creating that beautiful autumn haze.

The Lake District - Cumbria

As if anybody ever needs an excuse to visit this beautiful part of the world, but if you do, autumn is the perfect one to do so. Not only is it much quieter in the autumn months, with far fewer tourists around there are more free seats in front of cosy fires in pubs, more parking spaces, and a lot less background noise. But by far, the draw to the lakes at this time of year has to be the colours, they are mind-boggling! Whether you take a gentle stroll around a lake or challenge yourself to some good old yomping up Scafell Pike, make sure you take a hammock, as there are some views that are just far too good to miss!

Now on this one, I am entirely biased, this is where I got engaged, but goodness me it is beautiful. At this time of year there is hardly anyone there, and no matter what the weather, it is always peaceful. Call into Seahouses on the way back, and get fish and chips, or make a day of it, and take a boat over to the Farne Islands to see the seal pups, as autumn is the best time of year for it!

We would love to know where your beautiful places are, so if you have a hidden gem, that you wouldn't mind sharing with us, please get in touch; hello@simplyhammocks.co.uk
